Survey results - Power production in our back yard - Wind not Coal
LINK » Released March 2010
In a public survey carried out by PANiC Stations there was strong support for the development of renewable energy at the site (70% of people supporting a renewable energy use for the site). In comparison the proposal to build a new monster coal fired power station on this site was clearly unwanted (less than 8%).
Around 90% of the people questioned are concerned about Climate Change and Global Warming. Overwhelmingly (96%) of people consider it necessary to produce power by non-polluting means. Furthermore renewable power resources were very heavily favoured by the respondents (70%).
Panic Stations (People Against New Coal Stations) correctly predicted the demise of the coal power station proposal for Cambois/ Blyth and calls for the re-designation of the site for clean, green technology and housing regeneration in the new Core Strategy for Northumberland.
Local MP's were blasted by North-East environmental campaigners today for backing plans for a coal power station in the region.
A PROMINENT local politician has slammed current proposals for another coal power station at Blyth.
MEP Fiona Hall said in a letter to local campaigners that the plans “fly in the face of reason”.

Power stations such as that at Blyth would “fly in the face of reason" - without 100% CCS, they’re “killers", says local MEP.

At the well attended meeting on January 22nd in Cambois, the original aims of the campaign were reaffirmed. We oppose the construction of a new coal fired power station in Cambois, Blyth, because this would
- Further fuel global warming which we as a nation are committed to curbing
- Damage the health and quality of life of local communities
- Despoil the environment, threaten wildlife and be an eyesore visible for miles for 50 years on this heritage coast.
In contrast, we strongly support the development of renewable power generation infrastructure at the site, with all the extra jobs this would create.
Alarming Development
The new local campaign group PANiC Stations protested at the entrance of the former Blyth Power station today to raise the alarm by declaring the proposed £2b new coal power site a “Climate Crime Scene”.
A new local campaign group will brand a controversial site for a coal power station as a climate crime scene and seal it off with tape warning ‘not to cross’.
