Press Release
Launch Event - Monday 24th November
A new local campaign group will brand a controversial site for a coal power station as a climate crime scene and seal it off with tape warning ‘not to cross’.
The campaign group PANiC Stations will be raising the alarm of the climate crime scene at the proposed £2b new coal power station on the site of the former Blyth Power Station.
The launch will take place on Monday 24th November at 1pm.
Environmental groups, church organisations and the local community have formed PANiC Stations (People Against New Coal Stations) to demand NO NEW COAL POWER, for the following reasons:
- Coal is by far the most CO2 polluting fuel even with the best technology presently available
- Coal creates devastating dust and pollution for the local environment
- Coal will set back the clean technology development of the area which creates more and better jobs
“Global warming is the greatest issue we face. And burning coal is the single greatest threat to the climate. It's astonishing that there are plans to build climate wrecking coal fired power stations in the UK for the first time in over 30 years – including one right here at Blyth.”
